Knowing the Kabobi owners personally, I find myself going to this restaurant regularly, and would like to start with my experiences of dining at Kabobi. I hope, that more people would share their own experiencces, hence letting Kabobi know what they like, dislike and recommend; and what it is that brings them back over and over again, letting Kabobi quickly make a place for itself in the wonderful Hawthorne community. Food in the Afghan culture is at the centre of all the traditional social customs. The preperation of food, the serving and the eating are all social activities, hence giving a lively twist to the entire affair. Kabobi's menu and evolving environment (with Ahmad Zahir's voice in the background) try to commemorate the great Afghan tradition of eating and hospitality. Kabobi has been opened for just over a month and I believe that with the support of the Portland community, we'll see this restaurant flourish and be successful in bringing the lively tradtitions from Afganistan to Portland. I wish them the best of luck. Khushal Ossey!!

I ate at Kabobi for the first time a few nights ago with some friends, and we were all completely blown away by the food and the atmosphere. From the chai to the matoo, everything was amazing. We ate until we were stuffed, and if we could have held another bite, we would have eaten more. In addition, it was a pleasure to be served by the owner (I think he was the owner), who was friendly and full of helpful suggestions. This place definitely deserves to be discovered by Portland...so long as I don't have to wait in line!

My friends and I really enjoyed our first experience with Afghan cuisine as well as being at the Kabobi restaurant. Thank you for your warm hospitality and excellent customer service. My only suggestion would be to enhance the Kofta Mantoo with some more complexity and character (not necessarily hot/spicy, but with more seasoning in the meat, perhaps?). Otherwise, everything was very delicious and it was fun to try something new. Merci! Maria

Having been to several cities in Afghanistan, the food at Kabobi was and is Wonderful. The nan is amazing, the Tikka was fresh tasting, and the Rote was wonderful dunked in Chi. Portland is lucky to have this Afghan Cuisine so close. GO AND EAT!!!

No aush or aushlak? That would be a nice addition to the menu (though I worry a bit after reading the Mercury's description of the dumplings. . . .)
